The late, great Peter Drucker once remarked that “The aim of marketing is to know and understand the customer so well the product or service fits him and sells itself.” Great advice….and how do you do go about knowing and understanding the customer?
Marketing guru Seth Godin says you start by understanding that every marketing challenge revolves around these seven questions. Print these out, have a staff meeting, and find out what how well you and your team “know and understand the customer.”
How often do we assume we know what the customer wants or needs and are surprised when we get it wrong? Put yourself on the customer’s side of the table and think like them. Then, and only then, will you get closer to their needs or wants.
